The most important game in Patriots franchise history is going to take place this Sunday. A Super Bowl is important, of course, but this year’s is more important than any of the other three the Patriots have played in since 2001. This game is monumental in many ways, and today, I’ll take a look into what the outcome of Super Bowl XLII could mean.
An Undefeated Season
This is the most obvious. A win in Superbowl XLII will write the Patriots in as the first team to go 19-0, and they will be one of the greatest teams of all time. However, if the Patriots lose, the entire season is erased. The 16-0 regular season, won’t matter. The two playoff wins, won’t matter. Tom Brady’s 50 touchdown passes, won’t matter.
One of the Greatest Dynasties
Of course, the Patriots are already a dynasty. But they aren’t one of the great dynasties. The just don’t match up with some of those teams of the 70’s and 80’s. However, one more win, and they do. A win in Superbowl XLII not only puts the Patriots down as one of the greatest single teams, but one of the greatest dynasties, which is even more crucial. If the Patriots win this game, people 20 years from now will talk about the Steelers of the 70’s, 49ers of the 80’s, the Cowboys of the 90’s, and the Patriots of the 2000’s. Imagine being in that grouping.
There’s something to think about. Part 2 will come tonight
