I haven’t had the chance to post for the last couple of days, and things have really gotten crazy with the start of the combine. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s happened.
Dom Capers Hired
Defensive specialist and former Texans head coach Dom Capers was hired yesterday. Capers will be secondary coach as well as “special assistant.” I like this hire, as it allows Belichick more freedom on the sidelines. Capers will handle the chalk-board with Pees, while Belichick can work to make specific adjustments.
Bam Childress Signs with Eagles
No!!!!! If you’ve kept up with my blog, you’d know that Bam is one of my favorite players. He signed a two year contract. I wish him the best, and hope he can catch on in Philly.
Patriots Show interest in Receiver Dexter Jackson
App. State’s Dexter Jackson stated that the Patriots are one of three teams interested in him. Sounds good to me. Jackson might not be the most polished receiver, but he has good playmaking ability, and has potential to be a good player. Although raw, I think he would be worth a fifth or sixth round pick.
Asante Samuel will Enter Free Agency
This one was obviously coming. It’s clear that his tenure in New England is over, even if he says he wants to. Of course he wants to, but that’s only if they’ll pay him $10 million per year. Sorry Asante, you’re not worth that.
No Franchise Tag For Moss, but a deal close?
The Patriots elected not to use the franchise tag on receiver Randy Moss, but multiple sources are stating that the two sides are close to reaching a multi-year contract, and they are just waiting for the “new football year” to start to finalize the deal.
Stallworth Officially Declined
Donte Stallworth’s $8 million option was declined, making him a free agent free to sign with any team in which he pleases. I wouldn’t expect him to be back in a Patriots uniform.
Patriots and Kelley Washington in Talks
Although the Patriots are declining Kelley Washington’s $4 million option, they clearly want him to return with a restructured contract. The two sides met at the scouting combine, and will most likely agree on a new contract soon.
Tedy Bruschi to Make Decision Soon
According to Tedy Bruschi’s agent, Bruschi is expected to make a decision on his football future within the coming days. Lets all cross our fingers. However, my gut tells me he is leaving
So Much For That…
Zach Thomas has signed with the Dallas Cowboys, rejecting the Patriots contract offer. I guess we need a new plan for linebacker depth (J Leman, please).
Larry Izzo to Return
That’s very good to hear. One of the greatest special teams players in the history of the game. Sounds strange to say, but it’s true. Larry Izzo defines the term, “unsung hero.”
How bout that? Was that a mouthful for you?
