Just a few quick notes on the Patriots:
- The Patriots have released outside linebacker Darrell Robertson. Robertson, in his second year, was likely released due to a handful of developmental prospects at the position (Crable, Redd, Craig, Woods). Robertson was once projected to be an early draft pick, but his draft stock quickly deteriorated as the draft approached.
- The Patriots are scheduled to visit with Minnesota Vikings’ special team ace and linebacker Heath Farwell today, the Pioneer Press reports. Farwell led the Vikings in special teams tackles in both 2006 and 2007, but missed 2008 with a torn ACL he suffered in the preseason. Signing Farwell would likely signal the end of Larry Izzo’s tenure with the Patriots, which could be due to his recent involvement in BALCO and the Barry Bonds steroids investigation.
- Mike Reiss reports that fullback Heath Evans is scheduled to visit with the New Orleans Saints today. Losing Evans would be a big blow for the Patriots, as Evans is the teams only true fullback, who does everything a team could ask, is a special teams stud, and is an excellent locker room leader. Evans has repeatedly stated he would like to remain with the Patriots.
