Patriots Expected to Release Rosevelt Colvin

February 26, 2008

Mike Reiss reports:

In a move that appears to be salary-cap related, the Patriots are expected to release outside linebacker Rosevelt Colvin today, according to a league source

Hopefully, we can restructure his contract and bring him back.  If Rosie isn’t brought back, we will be in a real hole at linebacker.  Our only two top-end players under contract will be Mike Vrabel and Adalius Thomas.  My hunch is that Seau returns, but I’m not so sure about Bruschi.  At the combine, rumors were circulating that Bruschi was set to retire, then  that reversed, as rumors started that he and the Pats came to a new agreement.  I have no idea what’s going on there.  The only good thing about this release is that we save a whopping $5.5 million in cap space.
